This DeCal is designed to introduce undergraduates to the legal field and demystify the path to law school. Through interactive discussions and guest speakers, students will explore what pursuing a legal career entails. 

The course will cover the law school application process, including LSAT preparation strategies, personal statements, resumes, and letters of recommendation. Students will also learn about different legal pathways, such as public interest law, immigration law, corporate law, and academia, by engaging with law students, attorneys, and legal professionals.

Open to students of all majors and experience levels, this DeCal aims to make pre-law resources more accessible and to build a supportive community for those interested in the legal profession.

Class Overview: 
This class will be facilitated using lectures and guided class discussions by invited guest speakers and student facilitators. 
There are opportunities for direct field monitoring of police on duty. 
Students will learn about the issues faced by residents that racial profiling, civil, and human rights abuses bring to the community. 
Students will be trained in basic criminal procedure, power analysis, and techniques for observing police activity. 
In addition, students will examine the history and origins of police, resistance movements, and community-based alternatives to the justice system as we know it. 
Finally, in this course, students will have the opportunity to have a role in the community beyond the DeCal, researching topics that are current and relevant to the larger community.

Perennial: The Undergraduate Environmentalism Journal is seeking members for our Design and Editorial departments ! We are looking for folks who are passionate about the environment, environmentalism, and environmental politics and interested in sharing their talents and voices with the UC Berkeley community. 


Our Editorial Department is responsible for authoring articles (1 per semester, 2 per year) that will appear in our journal, with Staff Writers collaborating with a Senior Editor and an artistic team to bring their ideas to life.

Our Design Department is responsible for illustrating articles and cover art; our Design Department works closely with Staff Writers on individual article illustrations, as well as their peers in the Department to create a cohesive vision for the bi-annual publications.

If you know you're going to be enrolled by the Legalst department into a class after the Friday deadline, the fee will be waived for you.
The final add/drop deadline is Wednesday February 11th.

PKU Prog Su26
In the summer of 2026, Peking University (PKU) will host the Academic Explorers in China Program, in collaboration with partner universities in the U.S., as part of the China Deep Dive: Global Young Leaders Program. Participants will attend lectures on the PKU campus and participate in guided excursions in and around Beijing. Students from PKU will also join the program, fostering mutual understanding of cultures and values. This initiative aims to encourage participants to form lifelong friendships that will support them as they transition into future leadership roles.
As a partner university, UC Berkeley has been invited to recommend 6-8 undergraduate students to participate in the program. The application deadline is Friday, January 30, 2026.
