UKRAINI 168 - Ukraine: History, Identity, Society, and the Environment #12738

Online | TuWTh | 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm | 3 unitsSession D, July 7 - August 15

How many Maidans did Ukraine have in the last 30 years, and how did they shape the current agenda in Ukraine? What role did students play in those social uprisings? Is Ukraine a culturally diverse country? How is the attitude of Ukrainians towards the environment and their ecological history connected with socio-political life? How do fictional representations open up new ways of thinking about catastrophic events in Ukraine (Holodomor, Chornobyl, 2022 war) and social problems (corruption, poverty, gender inequality, and discrimination)? This course will help you find the answers to these questions and develop more ways to understand and learn from Ukrainians and their exceptional invincibility.

Taught in English with readings in English.

We’re excited to share that there are two fantastic opportunities to join the Fall 2025 SLP (Strategic Learning Program)Peer Staff Team (part of the SLC: Student Learning Center)! Whether you're interested in working closely with your peers in an academic coaching role or are excited to support the student experience within the SLP community, we’ve got a role for you.

We are now accepting applications for both the Peer Academic Coach and the newly introduced SLP Program Ambassador positions! Read on below to learn more about the roles:

  • Peer Academic Coach: As a Peer Academic Coach, you’ll have the rewarding opportunity to guide your fellow students on their academic journeys. By offering personalized support, you’ll help enhance their learning experience and create a positive, collaborative environment that fosters academic success.
  • SLP Program Ambassador: This work-study position offers a meaningful opportunity to serve and positively impact the undergraduate community at Cal. As an SLP Program Ambassador, you’ll play an essential role in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment in our Academic Coaching Hub by supporting students, staff, and your fellow SLP peer staff.

These positions are ideal for students who are enthusiastic about engaging with their peers, interested in giving back to the campus community, and eager to grow as learners and budding professionals. In addition to supporting student success, peer staff benefit from close mentorship and guidance from SLC professional staff. You'll gain valuable work experience and develop your budding professional skills including communication, organization, and collaboration that will serve you well beyond your time at Cal!
