I’m reaching out to let folks know that the Labor Center is running a student-led project to conduct research on the experiences of being a student and a worker. We want to look into a day in the life of student workers on our campus. This will take form in the medium of a short-film and we are looking for footage and/or audio explaining your experiences to present the need for representation of student workers at Cal. We will be hosting a brief info session on Thursday, November 5th at 3PM.

Goldman Schl Course

My name is Selena, and I work for the UC Berkeley Labor Center. I’m reaching out because this Spring 2021, we are offering Public Policy 190: Field Studies in Community and Labor Organizing and Public Policy 290: Challenges & Innovation in Labor Policy. Both courses are taught by Dr. Anibel Ferus-Comelo through the Goldman School of Public Policy.

PubPol 190: This field study course is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who have an interest in social and economic justice, and seek to earn academic credit while gaining experience in organizing. Building upon the Labor Center’s popular Labor Summer program, it allows students to apply existing organizing skills or acquire new knowledge in community and labor organizations. Once enrolled, students will be matched with our community partners that promote the interests of working families in the Bay Area. Classroom-based guided reflection, skills development, career information, and engagement with current debates will complement the fieldwork. This experience can open the door to life-long careers as organizers, researchers, policy analysts, political lobbyists, communication specialists and influential leaders in the labor movement.

22) Zen Meditation Wkshp
Zen Meditation Wkshp
My name is Ping-Chen and I am the primary contact of Heart Chan Berkeley group, an RSO in UC Berkeley. We used to work with the Graduate Student Wellness Project to offer meditation workshops on campus. On Mondays there is a free online meditation class for the UC Berkeley community, with the hope to help with this difficult situation.
If you could share this information with your students, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

We eat and sleep to sustain our health, maybe exercise to look and feel better, read or study to stimulate the mind. The activity of our life is much like a piece of music. If it’s all activity, it’s just noise. When we integrate “rests” into the music, it becomes a dynamic beautiful expression. Zen /Chan allows us to find the sync between activity and inactivity, form and formless, to allow our life experience to be a beautiful and fulfilling expression of life.

This is an eight-week series that covers fundamentals of Zen/Chan meditation for the UC Berkeley community, hopefully helping participants to establish and incorporate meditation into their daily routines and benefit from it. Step-by-step instructions will be given in this class. Anyone with or without meditation experience is welcome to join.

  • Time: Mondays 6:00-7:30pm Pacific Time, until November 16, 2020
  • Location: Online at Zoom (meeting ID: 954 7350 9703, passcode: heartchan)
  • This class is free and no registration is required

COVID-19 era: Please find a quiet place you feel safe and can relax for the period of time for each class. Treat each session as if you were in a room with the teacher and other participants. Don’t let the mind create the separation that doesn’t have to be there. We will be connected when we meditate together. For more information, please refer to the Callink page.
