5) Toraji Prize

Toraji Prize


Deadline:   May 1, 2022

The Asian American Research Center and the Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies program welcome applications and nominations for the Toraji Korean American Studies prize. This annual prize is for UC Berkeley students from any department who are researching and/or writing about Korean American literature, film, and cultural studies. Topics in history and politics will also be considered.

Instructors can nominate students, and students can apply directly.

UNDERGRADUATES should submit a short CV and an essay of 10 or more double-spaced pages. These can be papers already written or written especially for this application. Prizes for the best essay can be either cash or gift cards, depending on student preferences and needs. Depending on the number of applicants, award amounts will be between $250 and $1000.
 
DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS AND APPLICATIONS: May 1

AWARDS will be announced before May 15 for immediate disbursal.

Moderators: Sean Burns, Director, Discovery Hub; Evelyn Thorne
Environmental justice and climate justice are urgent and essential social movements of our era. This panel discussion, hosted by the Discovery Hub, brings together a range of undergraduates working on research and community projects that support environmental justice and climate justice. The purpose of the event is to share ideas with all Cal students about opportunities on campus to get involved in EJ and CJ work. Student panelists include: Kathryn Wilson (Zero Waste Coalition Chair, DeCal leader), Noah Bussell (renewable energy research, SURF fellow), Mia Campbell (sustainable housing / solar decathlon), Yueyi Che (climate science research, Fung Fellow, SURF fellow), Brooke Chang (Student Environmental Resource Center).

This event is part of the campus series "Interventions & Innovations: Undergraduates in Conversation About Their Discovery Projects" hosted by the Discovery Hub Director, Sean Burns. Please register for this Zoom based event.

The Career Center is hiring new Peer Advisors! Positions start in fall 2022 and will continue through spring 2023. If you're looking to gain experience in the fields of counseling/higher education or just strengthen your communication skills, this is the position for you. This role is open to all majors.
Working directly with and supervised by two staff Career Counselors, Peer Advisors are trained to be extremely knowledgeable about Career Center services and counseling techniques. Peer Advisors assist students through providing 1:1 drop in advising and delivering workshops.
