7)  CivHacks

CivHacks

My name is Niki Ebrahimnejad and I am part of the Outreach team for CivHacks run by the ASUC Vote Coalition. I am reaching out today on behalf of Vote Co. to express our great interest in how you can be a part of this event. (I’ve also cc’ed Vote Co. Directors Junshik Ham and Mansi Seth and Deputy Directors Andrea Wang and Shreya Puranam on this thread).

The purpose of this hackathon is to bridge the existing gap between STEM students and their civic engagement, as well as increase voter turnout among the STEM student population. We wish to provide an environment that welcomes all backgrounds and technical levels to participate in an event that focuses on the intersection of tech and civic engagement. Participants will form teams to address major issues within the realm of civic engagement and may draw from their own unique experiences and knowledge.

In order to ensure an inclusive environment for all students, we plan to provide them with any assistance they may need through onsite technical mentors, either as a source of information or as a group facilitator. At the end of the event, our team of judges chooses the top two winners from our regular track and beginner track and an esteemed judge who works in civics provides the two teams with valuable insight and guidance to help them further develop their idea.

We believe we could attract a lot of students who are passionate about building and tackling social issues through this event and would really appreciate your help as co-sponsor for the event. All details are outlined on our sponsorship prospectus that you can access here. Additionally, please let us know if you are interested in sending someone to participate in hosting a workshop, giving a talk, or being a judge.

Thank you for supporting Vote Co’s work in making voting more accessible. We hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,

Niki Ebrahimnejad, Shreya Puranam, Mansi Seth, Andrea Wang, and Junshik Ham
