Summary of Internship

The People’s Vanguard of Davis is a 501(c)3 non-profit, community-based watchdog and news reporting organization that publishes daily covering the city of Davis, Yolo County Courts, Alameda, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and other regional news and commentary. The Vanguard seeks to bring transparency, accountability, and fairness to local government, while promoting social justice and democracy, and adhering to principles of accuracy and fairness in our reporting.

We are looking for writers or pre-law students interested in an exciting but challenging program monitoring and reporting on court cases in the local courts.

Have the opportunity to meet with local Public Defenders and attorneys willing to share their experiences in court with you.

The Vanguard Court Watch is a non-profit organization covering the county courts at davisvanguard.org. It offers student interns an opportunity to gain experience in the courthouse watching and monitoring cases as well as experience writing articles for a local online publication.

Interns are sent into the courtroom to take notes, monitor cases, and report on the happenings as well as record observations about current court cases.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR UNDERGRADUATE-LEVEL INTERNS TO GO INTO THE COURTROOM AND OBSERVE LIVE TRIALS.

Both in-person and online opportunities.

Anyone over 18 years of age or attending college is eligible to participate. We ask all interns to commit to 15 hours a week for 3 months. We have an eight-hour training session over four days for all interested interns. We also have a required weekly meeting. And warn that there may be sensitive material discussed in court,

Course Credit is available with arrangements with the institution.

Please email us with a cover letter, resume, and a minimum 500-word writing sample to snboulos@davisvanguard.org
