With Summer Sessions officially underway, we are thrilled to announce that the SLC Writing Program will officially open its doors for summer services on Tuesday, 6/24Please note that our first week will be virtual only. We would be grateful if you would share the attached flyer with students in your networks, and encourage them to visit us as they draft and revise their academic writing this summer.
We know that the pace of Summer Sessions can be intense, and that summer brings many students who are new to campus. So, we hope to get the word out that our services are free, both in-person and virtual, and we offer multiple formats for maximum flexibility. Students can Drop-in, no previous scheduling required, or book an Appointment in advance. Additionally, we offer Weekly service, where students meet up to three times a week with the same peer tutor. This consistent partnership is a great way to demystify academic writing conventions and to refine each student’s individual writing process.

“Plan It. Prioritize It. Achieve It.” Group Academic Coaching: Join fellow learners in this seven-week group coaching series focused on building essential academic skills in a supportive, community-centered space. You'll strengthen your ability to plan, prioritize, and stay on track through guided goal-setting, peer accountability, and weekly reflection. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 3 - 4 pm. Individual Academic Coaching: Through one-to-one sessions with an experienced SLP Academic Coach, you’ll have the opportunity to identify your goals, reflect on your progress, and tailor strategies to meet the unique demands of your summer schedule. Whether you’re trying to stay on top of assignments or build new habits for the long term, coaching can provide personalized guidance and support. Legal Program Assistant
Legal Assistance for Seniors (LAS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in its 49th year serving Alameda County residents who are 60 years of age and older. Through its Legal Services Program, LAS provides legal advice and information, representation in court and administrative hearings, referrals to other community resources, and community education and training in the areas of prevention of elder abuse, consumer law, public benefits, housing, guardianships, naturalization, and health law. Through its Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP), LAS provides individual counseling and community education to Medicare beneficiaries in the areas of Medicare enrollment and coverage, supplemental coverage including Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans, low-income assistance programs, and long-term care insurance.
The Role
Reporting to the Legal Director, the Legal Program Assistant will support the legal team by performing a wide range of administrative, client-facing, and case-related tasks. This position plays an integral role in ensuring the smooth operation of the legal department, assisting with case management, legal document preparation, and providing excellent support to clients and attorneys. The Legal Program Assistant will also contribute to creating a welcoming and efficient office environment, handling limited receptionist responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Perform initial pre-screening and intake of potential clients (by phone and walk-ins), gathering detailed information and creating concise summaries for attorneys and advocates

Provide administrative support to attorneys, including filing and service of legal pleadings, assistance with case opening and closing procedures, maintenance of case files, and conducting online database searches

Manage incoming and outgoing legal department mail, maintain up-to-date referral lists and resource materials, process legal expense requests, and assist with mailing intake documents and handouts to clients

Attend and contribute to regular legal team meetings and support special projects or legal research as assigned

Help maintain a professional and welcoming office environment by performing limited receptionist duties such as answering calls, greeting visitors, and receiving and copying documents from clients

Support the upkeep of shared office spaces and meeting rooms by maintaining supplies, organizing common areas, assisting with client or team meetings (e.g., refreshments, copies, note-taking, cleanup)

Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned

The Role
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Operations Coordinator focuses on internal systems and processes, contributing to the organization’s smooth operations. The Operations Coordinator will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects and to assess and improve on existing processes. This role serves as the primary liaison with our office technology and facilities support vendors and will oversee IT/IS resources, including cloud and onsite servers, HRIS and VOIP phone systems; and physical resources including copiers, postage machine, desktops and laptops. This role requires great communication skills, collaborative intention, curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and dive into the details.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
