The following note is from the Associate Dean for Legal Studies that outlines the P/NP policy for the Legal Studies Major for Fall 2022.

ASUC Academic Affairs VP sent a letter on Thursday 12/8 (yesterday) asking Legal Studies to allow P/NP grades to be used for major/minor requirements this fall. The College of Letters & Science extended the deadline for students to request P/NP until this Sunday, 12/11. L&S is encouraging departments to allow P grades to fulfill major requirements. After consulting closely with staff and colleagues across campus, I have decided that Legal Studies will allow P grades to be used to fulfill major requirements (prereqs and upper divs) for classes taken Fall 2022.
This does not affect whether instructors must submit any grade at all. The Faculty Senate’s position remains the same: that faculty can leave grades blank for any students they're unable or not willing ethically to submit grades for.
Legal Studies will ask instructors to enter a letter grade in the "notes" field along with a P or NP. This is in keeping with past practice. It means that P/NP will not necessarily reduce instructors’ workload.

If you are currently participating in the Legal Studies Honors Program, or plan to participate in the Legal Studies Honors Program in the future, all 30 upper division units used to fulfill major requirements must be taken for a letter grade.
