PhD Student in Jurisprudence and Social Policy

I am pursuing different projects that examine the relationship between law and globalization. First, I am studying WTO Appellate Body jurisprudence related to China's Accession Protocol. This is an effort to understand the relationship between the WTO and sovereignty. I ask how sovereignty has been understood as both the basis of the international trade regime, but also as a phenomena that the international trade regime reshapes over time. Second, I am exploring the inter-temporal dimension of duty in tort law. This project asks about the relationship between law and time, as well as law's potential to respond to climate change (i.e. a central problem posed by globalization). Third, I am tracking the idea of competition as it evolved in different areas of law and disciplines of thought. I suggest that it is a legal concept influenced by a rich history in both economics and international relations.

As a JD-PhD student, each of these projects serves two purposes. First, I am deepening my understanding of the nature of law. I ask how the law is an institution that both influences and is influenced by our other modes of moral, economic and political organization. In addition, these projects reflect a commitment to understand how we can use the law to better manage our interconnected world, and the many forms of interdependence that it creates.

I am concurrently a JD student at NYU School of Law, where I completed my 2L before beginning at JSP.
