Doctoral Candidate in Jurisprudence and Social Policy (ABD)

Matt's current work examines the politics of intellectual property law. His dissertation research tests the extent to which social movement theory can explain recent mobilization of American inventor-activists.

This application of social movement theory to intellectual property law connects Matt's prior work and educational experiences. Before returning to the Jurisprudence & Social Policy Program to complete his Ph.D., Matt worked as an intellectual property litigator. This work deepened Matt's interest in the complicated ways law matters (or not) to inventors.

Matt received his M.A. in Jurisprudence & Social Policy and a J.D. from Berkeley Law School in 2007. Before that, Matt majored in political science and philosophy at the University of Michigan.
