5) Foster Care Study
OUTCOMES AND EXPERIENCES OF UNDOCUMENTED YOUTH WHO AGE OUT OF THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM
I am looking to study the impact of the foster care system on those who are undocumented and classified as unaccompanied minors. This may include past experiences of being in a youth shelter, group home, foster home, detention center, juvenile facility, being placed with a relative, or alone. All information will be kept anonymous and your name and legal status will not be gathered or used. For your voluntary participation in a 1- hour phone interview you will be given a $50 Amazon Gift Card. Open to students and non-students age 18 or older.

6) Sup Ct Webinar Fri
There will be a short webinar on “The Supreme Court and Judicial Review,” featuring Jennifer Ahearn, Senior Counsel at NYU's Brennan Center for Justice and renowned appellate litigator Deepak Gupta of Gupta Wessler. There are growing calls to overturn Marbury v. Madison or otherwise resist the Supreme Court’s power of judicial review. The speakers will explain the issues and take questions from the audience. The program will take place on Friday, September 29th, from 1-1:30 p.m. Pacific Time, via Zoom.

Your answer to this question is much more important than “what did you major in?” or “how did you do in school?.” Workshop #4 will help you tell the story of your Berkeley experience by reflecting on 1) what did you learn about yourself and the world while at Berkeley and 2) how to frame these experiences to open doors for the next chapter of your life after graduation.

The Matsui Center's
Leonard D. Schaeffer Fellows in Government Service program supports undergraduate students pursuing careers in government. Schaeffer Fellows complete 10-week, full-time summer internships with a government agency or elected official at the federal, state or local level. In addition to their summer internship experience, Fellows attend a 3-day professional conference in Washington, DC, and benefit from professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. These experiences are designed to help Fellows prepare for their careers and develop an informed view of government service and operations. Fellows receive a $5,500 stipend to defray summer living and transportation expenses.

The
Cal-in-Sacramento Fellowship is one of the University of California’s largest and most prestigious campus-based public service internship programs. Each year, the Matsui Center selects a cohort of 30 UC Berkeley undergraduates who are passionate about public service and helps prepare them for a meaningful career through coursework, research training, and internship experience. During the spring semester, Fellows take a 3-unit course on California policy and politics, along with a professional development curriculum and research training. During the summer, Fellows move to Sacramento, where they complete an eight-week public service internship and conduct original research on a topic impacting Californians. The program provides free shared housing in Sacramento, a free Sacramento RT Light Rail pass, and a modest living stipend. Applicants are also eligible to apply for a supplemental
Research Fellowship.
