1) Lauri Needs Volunteers!

Lauri Needs Volunteers!

I need at least three volunteers to hand out reader cards to the graduates at the Legal Studies Commencement, help them with pinning their caps on, lining them up for the procession and gathering up all the supplies to bring inside once the graduates are all inside for the ceremony.

The ceremony is on Sunday, May 15th.

I arrive at noon, the house opens to guests at 1pm, the graduates are expected to be there between 1 and 1:15pm, so I need help at noon to get things set up.

You'll have seats reserved up front in Zellerbach and please enjoy a Cupcakin' cupcake too!

It's actually really fun to see what the ceremony will be like when you walk  ;-)
Please let me know asap if you can for sure make it! Just reply to this message.

I will forever be in your debt.

Please ONLY tell me you can come and help out if you know FOR SURE that you can come.

It's pretty rotten to have folks bail at the last minute. Aieeee!!!

Thank you!!!

3) NCYL Job

NCYL Job

My name is Melissa Adamson, and I am reaching out to share a job posting that I think will be of interest to graduating seniors in the Legal Studies Program. Recently I had the pleasure of speaking to the students in LS 154 about my organization's work. I am an attorney at the National Center for Youth Law in Oakland, and we are seeking to hire a Program Associate to join our Immigration Team.

The mission of the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) is to amplify youth power, dismantle racism and other structural inequities, and build just policies, practices, and culture in support of young people. NCYL's Immigration Team uses a combination of federal litigation, state and federal policy advocacy, stakeholder education, and coalition building to uphold and expand the rights of detained immigrant youth as well as immigrant children in the community.

The Program Associate position provides key support to the Immigration Team, including but not limited to: logistical and administrative support; academic, basic data, and factual research and analysis; project management and technology support; and design and communications assistance. This is a great position for graduating seniors who may be interested in human rights, federal policy, law, immigration, or child advocacy.

Interested applicants are encouraged to review the job description and apply as soon as possible. The deadline for application is next Friday, May 6, 2022.

Learn Latin this summer at UC Berkeley's world-renowned Summer Workshop, a Berkeley tradition for over fifty years!

Building on our excellent experiences the last two summers (read student testimonials here), the Department of Ancient Greek & Roman Studies is offering the Workshop remotely once again in Summer 2022.

These intensive ten-week courses (June 6 - August 12) provide an unparalleled opportunity to acquire a basic reading knowledge of Latin, covering the equivalent of 2+ semesters of work in the language in just ten weeks.*  During the first six weeks, students learn grammar and essential vocabulary; during the last four, they read a variety of works in the original (e.g., in the Greek Workshop, Homer, tragedy, Plato, the Gospels; in the Latin Workshop, Cicero, Caesar, Virgil, Ovid).

For a complete description of this summer's Workshops, follow these links:

If you have questions about the Workshop, we encourage you to contact the Workshop Director: Daniel Squire (daniel.squire@berkeley.edu).
