Riesenfeld Symposium

The 2022 Riesenfeld Symposium will provide a forum for both academic and practical discussion of global antitrust issues. The Symposium will gather noted scholars, policy makers, and legal practitioners to discuss the issues and concerns that have arisen as a result of different approaches to antitrust policies.

Due to her indisputable impact on antitrust, the 2022 Riesenfeld Award will be given to keynote speaker Margrethe Vestager, European Commissioner for Competition and the Executive Vice President of the European Commission for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age. As Commissioner for Competition for the European Union, Commissioner Vestager is in charge of regulating commercial activity and enforcing the EU's rules designed to keep the markets fair. Commissioner Vestager has gained international recognition for her action against major multinational companies including Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Russian natural gas producer Gazprom, and Italian carmaker Fiat. Described by the New York Times as “ perhaps the world’s most famous […] regulator,” her work has redefined the field of antitrust regulation.

Commissioner Vestager’s keynote will be followed by three panels and light dinner/reception with leading practitioners in the antitrust realm.

The symposium includes options to attend both in-person and virtually. Attendees are encouraged to attend in person if possible. There will be a light dinner/reception after the symposium open to all guests. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to all in-person attendees. The Riesenfeld Symposium will take place on February 22, 2022, at Berkeley Law.  To register, visit https://www.bigmoneybigenforcement.com/.

9) SURF

SURF

SURF awards eligible Cal students $5,000 to complete a summer research

project.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program is a campus-wide program

that supports undergraduate students pursuing independent and mentor-led research

projects at UC Berkeley. In addition to funding eight weeks of focused research time

over the summer months, SURF organizes a wide variety of skills-building and

professional workshops, preparing participants for both graduate school and

opportunities after graduation. Under the mentorship of SURF staff, fellows benefit from

small group meetings that expand their social network and encourage information

sharing between students in cognate disciplines. Open to all matriculating UC Berkeley

students, the program comprises three different cohorts that support arts/humanities

students --SURF L&S, SURF UROC, and SURF SMART--each of which has specific

eligibility requirements. Applicants are encouraged to attend an info session, draft

workshop, and consult with SURF staff before submitting an application. For more

information, please visit the SURF website.

Applications for SURF 2022 are due March 1st.
