Through our work at the Vanguard, we hope to bring awareness to pressing issues at UC Berkeley, as well as in the larger Bay Area community. Currently, we are seeking social justice and prison reform writers (prior journalism experience is not necessarily required).

UCDC sends juniors and seniors to Washington, D.C. each fall and spring. You'll live at the UC Washington Center, take classes, and complete an internship—all for a full semester of UC Berkeley academic credit. All majors are eligible, and financial aid and scholarships are available.

QCP is a mentorship program conducted through the Gender Equity Resource Center that is designed to connect incoming LGBTQ+ students to their communities on campus and help them through their first semester at UC Berkeley.
Incoming undergraduate students (new-to-college freshmen, transfer students, reentry students) are encouraged to apply. These incoming students, “Pals”, are matched with continuing students known as “Buddies” (Mentors), a partnership intended to support new UC Berkeley students by offering insight and friendship.
Being a Pal is a semester-long commitment and requires attendance at two signature events, the Matching Ceremony (September 4th) and Closing (early December) ceremonies, as well as spending time with your Buddy twice a month. We will be hosting several optional events, including a group visit to Berkeley Pride (August 30th) and a tour of the historic Castro District in San Francisco (October 17th).
QCP programming will be in-person and does not require any fees to participate. QCP and GenEq are committed to making all programming accessible, so please inform us of any needs or conflicts you anticipate.

The HRC's Investigations Lab offers UC Berkeley students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience conducting open-source investigations into human rights violations worldwide. Students learn how to find, verify, and analyze information from social media and other publicly available online sources, contributing to investigations that support human rights advocacy, journalism, and legal accountability. Working alongside fellow students, mentors, and human rights professionals, Lab students contribute to real-world projects while developing practical investigative and research skills.
